The Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) has updated its tenancy agreement forms – including the General tenancy agreement, Moveable dwelling tenancy agreement and Rooming accommodation agreement – to remove the requirement for witness signatures.
This update will ensure a smoother, more convenient transaction between parties to a tenancy and is part of the RTA’s commitment to delivering services that help make renting work for everyone.
Written tenancy agreements are the cornerstone of a successful tenancy and this update will deliver a number of benefits for everyone involved in a tenancy.
- Only parties to the tenancy need to sign the agreement.
- Tenancy agreements can be signed and exchanged between the tenant/agent/owner digitally, making the process faster and more efficient.
- Opportunity to reduce paper-based transactions and streamline record-keeping.
The updated tenancy General tenancy agreement, Moveable dwelling tenancy agreement and Rooming accommodation agreement are now available on the RTA website and to order.
All other terms in these tenancy agreements remain the same and remain legally binding.
In addition to a copy of the tenancy agreement, tenants must also be given an Entry condition report, a copy of the relevant Information Statement (Pocket guide for tenants – houses and units or Pocket guide for tenants – caravan parks ) and the rental bond must be lodged with the RTA within 10 days of receiving it.
