The Queensland Government has moved to a more secure and advanced digital identity system.
On 6 April 2025, the Queensland Digital Identity (QDI) system replaced the former QGov identity platform. QDI is now used to access RTA Web Services on the Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) website, as well as several other Queensland Government online services.
QDI doesn’t change the appearance or functionality of RTA Web Services. However, you may be asked to create a QDI or re-verify your identity next time you log into our online services.
The RTA website and resources have been updated with information on QDI to help customers with this change.
What is Queensland Digital Identity (QDI)?
QDI is a digital identity verification system. It’s used to check your identity and keep your information secure when you access Queensland Government online services. Think of QDI as a substitute for your signature on paper.
QDI is more secure, advanced and flexible than QGov. A key point of difference is that QDI accepts a wider range of documents, including international identification (ID) documents.
QDI makes it easier for more RTA customers to access our online services. This can save time when filling out, lodging and managing your tenancy paperwork.
Do I need to do anything?
Most RTA customers don’t need to do anything right now.
You may need to create a QDI or re-verify your identity next time you log into RTA Web Services.
Simply follow the login prompts and you’ll be redirected to the QDI website. You'll be asked to accept the QDI terms and conditions and register for multi-factor authentication (MFA) before you can proceed.
How do I create my QDI account?
You can create a QDI account at any time.
When you engage with RTA Web Services, you will be directed to the Queensland Government's QDI website to prove your identity by logging into QDI. If you've never used RTA Web Services before, you may be given the option of creating a new QDI.
Your QDI is a unique personal account and should not be shared with anyone else. We recommend creating your QDI using a personal email address that only you have access to. Avoid using a shared email address or a work email address that you may lose access to in the future.
