RTA events travel the state

Last month the RTA delivered 9 face-to-face events, engaging more than 900 people across three Queensland locations about rental law reforms. Hearing directly from the rental sector about their level of understanding is an important step in ensuring the RTA develops helpful educational resources to ensure Queenslanders feel informed about the changes to their tenancy rights and responsibilities.

With upcoming sessions planned for Rockhampton and Gladstone in August; Cairns, Atherton and the Gold Coast in September; and the Sunshine Coast in October, make sure you register to attend a local session near you.

Rental law changes sessions: Brisbane

New rental laws commenced on 6 June 2024 following assent of the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024.

To help the sector understand and prepare for recent and upcoming law changes, the RTA delivered 5 events across Brisbane, engaging with 760 property managers, owners, tenants, rooming providers and community organisations.

Popular questions at these events were about changes to rent increases and maximum rent in advance. Our staff were able to discuss these topics, providing information and practical examples to improve attendees’ understanding.

The feedback received at these sessions has informed our updated rent increase FAQs and will continue to shape the development of new RTA rental law changes resources over the coming weeks.

Next sessions

As part of a statewide education plan, the RTA will be hosting additional rental law changes information sessions in Rockhampton and Gladstone throughout August and Gold Coast in September. For more information, visit our Events page

General tenancy information sessions: Toowoomba and Warwick

The RTA is committed to providing regular general tenancy information sessions to help our customers better understand Queensland rental laws, tenancy matters and RTA services.

We delivered 4 events in Toowoomba in Warwick for property managers/agents and property owners, and were joined by over 160 attendees.

Our participants were particularly interested in ongoing rental law changes (including rent increases and rent in advance), minimum housing standards, entry to rental properties, renting with pets and water charges.

Thank you also to the Toowoomba sector stakeholders who met with the RTA Board of Directors to share their local insights and experiences and demonstrate how they are building strong cross-sector connections to help find solutions to the current challenges in the region.

Next sessions

The next round of general tenancy information sessions will be held in Cairns and on the Sunshine Coast later this year. More information will be available on our Events page soon.
