Changes to QCAT bond disputes

Changes to the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008 (the Act) on 6 June 2024, outline a process for the RTA to repay disputed rental bonds that have been or are dismissed by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT).

The RTA is now required to release disputed bond payments from dismissed QCAT cases in line with the original Refund of rental bond (Form 4).

From 1 August 2024, the RTA began processing 230 bonds from dismissed cases that could not be paid out before the legislation changes, returning more than $181,000 in disputed bond refund payments to Queenslanders.
